Our BlueInsight Business Unit was on board the ship D. Carlos I as part of the Nautilos project.
CEiiA's BlueInsight Business Unit was on board the hydrographic ship NRP D. Carlos I to carry out deep sea tests of the new autonomous underwater observatory - ‘Lander’ - for measuring environmental parameters on the seabed. This new Lander can be installed on the seabed at depths of up to 2000 metres and is equivalent to the two systems already supplied to the Portuguese Navy with an operational range of 500 metres.
The mission on board the NRP D. Carlos I lasted three days and was part of a campaign by the University of Lisbon's IDL, in which acoustic communication and stability tests were carried out and the watertightness of the Lander system was checked.
The new Lander integrates sensors and other components developed under the European NAUTILOS project, such as the Deep Ocean CTD developed by the Slovenian partner Ul-FE, which measures the physical properties of water on the seabed.
This European project is led by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) (Italy) and aims to develop and demonstrate sensors, subsystems and their integration into vehicles and platforms for new ocean observation and monitoring services, as well as preparing their entry into the market.
