CCDRN (Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission) and the Government of the State of Rondônia (in Brazil) have established cooperation to enhance carbon sequestration, protect the forest and combat climate change.

The implementation of this cooperation involves the development and application by CEiiA of a methodology for measuring carbon sequestration for international certification using very high resolution satellites to be presented at COP30.

With the collaboration of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and the University of Minho, various models will be developed to validate the methodology, which will be tested in northern Portugal, namely in the Peneda-Gerês Natural Park, the Douro Wine Region and Trás-os-Montes, and then replicated on a large scale in the Amazon rainforest.
