Project:

AEROGANP

Overview

The main objective of the AEROGANP project (Creation of a cross-border research and knowledge transfer axis in the aeronautics and aerospace sector) is to promote research in the GDP Euroregion in a strategic technological sector such as aerospace, through the creation of a network to promote its R&D&I generation and transfer capacities through the interrelationship between all its public and private agents.

The main objectives are:

  • The creation of a cross-border cooperation network in the Euroregion that includes the main players with an interest in the space sector, generating a map of capacities and synergies that lasts and expands over time.
  • The launch of a demonstrator that operates on both sides of the border and serves to facilitate the transfer of aerospace technology to society.
  • Through the network and the demonstrator described, contribute significantly to the development and improvement of capacities for research, innovation, and the transfer of aerospace technology to the productive sector.

The synergies generated by the proposed cooperation will materialise through the creation of a demonstrator that will operate with two complementary parts: one dedicated to ‘big data’ and satellite tracking in Guimarães (pt) to receive and analyse spatial and aerial data, and another at the Rozas CIAR (Galicia) where several pilots demonstrating various advanced drone technologies, manufactured jointly on both sides of the border, will produce data that will be analysed at the Portuguese centre. In this way, the creation of this cross-border cooperation network will be able to continue and continue to produce joint collaborations over time, beyond the period of execution of this project.

Through 6 activities, 4 technical and 2 transversal, the aerospace sector in the GNP Euroregion will be provided with an R&D&I ecosystem with low TRL, responding to a fundamental social challenge such as the creation and retention of knowledge. This part of Europe will achieve the following results, among others:

  • Strengthening cross-border co-operation in the aerospace sector.
  • An increase in the transfer of knowledge generated by basic aerospace research to the surrounding fabric.
  • An increase in the number of aerospace researchers and technologists on both sides of the border, reaching the critical mass to lead major projects.
  • Promoting the R&D&I ecosystem as an investment attraction.
